The fact that nearly three quarters of Evertonians feel that not enough is being done to sell the Club, is a fair reflection of the current situation.
Very little has been mentioned in public of late about any recent enquiries which leads me to think that Bill Kenwright has no intention of relinquishing control of Everton FC.
While I was supportive of Kenwright’s involvement of the loan acquisitions at the start of the season my feelings about his overall stewardship of EFC are doubtful.
He is a good Evertonian, we know this, but so am I, as are thousands of others. I find it irksome and frustrating that he doesn’t seem too bothered about the fact that he cannot provide the basic function of a Football Club Chairman, which is to provide the funds for the Manager to purchase players of sufficient ability to justify our standing within the Premiership.
When ever he is challenged about the potential sale of the club, he comes out with some cock and bull story about speaking to some billionaire recently about selling up, but this is the last we hear of it and is quite frankly, a load of tosh.
The process of keeping the team going is relying on us selling our best players and bringing in loan acquisitions on an increasing basis and this season has seen a major recurrence of this strategy.
Don’t get me wrong, it is pleasing to see the likes of Lukaku, Barry and Deloufeu displaying their fine talents in a blue shirt, but come May, this will come to another abrupt end.
The sale of our top 6 players and management to Manchester United with another likely to follow is also causing me grave concern, so much so that I think we can state categorically that we have become an official feeder club for them. In addition to Baines, don’t be surprised if Moyes makes enquiries about Barkley, Jagielka and Coleman in the coming 12 months.
This strategy has led to the constant watering-down of fan’s expectations. The EFC Badge fiasco highlights this very succinctly. We grew up understanding that “Nils Satis Nisi Optimum” meant “Nothing But the Best Will Do.” Prior to the removal of the Latin motto from the Club’s crest, this was changed to “Nothing But The Best”, which is very different from it’s original meaning.
It is my belief that the removal of the latin motto was sanctioned by the Board (and principally by Bill Kenwright) to remove the constant reminder of what we once stood for.
In conclusion, I think that Kenwright’s personal ambitions within the Club are paramount regardless of his inability to provide the necessary revenues for the Club, which in my opinion should be his principal function as CEO. What’s best for Bill Kenwright is not necessarily the best thing for EFC and can only end in heartache.
