    Baines and Barkley nominated for award

    Everton duo Leighton Baines and Ross Barkley have been included in a list of nominees for the 2013 Northwest Football Awards.

    Baines has been put forward for the Premier League Player of the Year award after a fantastic season at both club and international level which saw him named in the PFA Team of the Year.

    The left-back will also be hoping to add to the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards that he picked up at Everton’s annual awards night but faces stiff competition with Manchester United’s Michael Carrick, Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher all up for the gong.

    Blues youngster Barkley is in contention for the Rising Star award after earning rave reviews for his displays in the opening month of the current campaign. The 19-year-old netted his first goal for the Club away at Norwich on the opening day before making his England debut against Moldova last Friday.

    Barkley will be up against former Everton youngster Callum McManaman for the award after the Wigan winger played a key role in the Latics’ FA Cup final win against Manchester City in May.

    McManaman is not the only former Blues player selected for an award, with Jose Baxter and Lee Molyneux receiving nominations for the npower League One and League Two Player of the Year awards respectively.

    Since becoming Everton’s youngest ever senior player in 2008, Baxter starred for Oldham last campaign before sealing a move to David Weir’s Sheffield United at the end of August.

    Molyneux is one of four players nominated for the League Two Player of the Year after a successful season with Accrington Stanley before earning a switch to Crewe in July.

    This year’s Northwest Football Awards ceremony takes place on Monday 4 November at Lancashire County Cricket Club.
