Browning: I wasn’t expecting to play as much as I have
Everton youngster Tyias Browning is delighted with his start to the season but concedes that he wasn’t expecting to play as much this season but is glad he has.
The youngster has filled in for injured defenders John Stones and Seamus Coleman and feels that he was rewarded for his hard work and returning to pre-season early.
“It’s been eventful,” he told evertontv. “I wasn’t expecting to play as much as I have so early on, but hopefully I can get some more games.
“Injuries have given me a chance to get in the team. I’ve had a few minutes and games.
“We’ve had a couple of good wins and should have had a couple more – like against Liverpool, but it’s been a good start for the team overall.”
When asked if he thought it was reward for returning to pre-season training early
“I’d like to think so,” he agreed. “But I’ve been working with the first team for the last two years so it had to happen sooner or later.
“I had to keep working. You never know what can happen with injuries and suspension – I’d like to think I’ve been quite patient.”
Scouser Browning was also asked on his opinions on his first start in a Merseyside derby.
“It was loud – I could hear it in the tunnel,”
“There were a couple of nerves, but I think the adrenalin got me through it and I enjoyed it.
“Playing next to Jags helped – he’s always talking to you, giving you advice on what to do and what not to do.
“He does talk a lot and he’s a good role model on and off the pitch. He’s helped me through the last few games.”
He added: “With Seamus and Stonesy, it’s going to be difficult to stay in the team, because they’re top players. But I’ve got to be patient and it’s the challenge for me to stay in the team.”
