COYB! Going the game on Sunday? Make some noise!

I don’t usually write articles like this but the Arsenal game on Sunday, at Goodison Park, calls for one. We need to let every Evertonian that is in The Old Lady on Sunday know that they have to be on top form, for our players to be on top form.

Let’s admit it, we haven’t been very good this season at all. Large parts are down to a lack of early goals and no major late goals to nick a win. Most of our goals have been scored between 70-85 minutes and it’s fair to say that this is probably one of the weaker times to score to get the crowd going. Even the 3-3 derby wasn’t the best, and that was one of the biggest thriller derbies we’ve had in a long time.

This game is different. This is one of our biggest league games for a long while. We need to make Goodison loud, noisy and intimidating to the travelling side. They are weak, they haven’t won in 3 and they are ready to fall apart. Although they are there to be caught up on, they aren’t going to go down without a fight and we need our players to be up for it. Of course, our players should be up for it with the benefits it could bring, but we still need to show them and encourage them, through the tougher periods and the on top periods. Scream for every decision, roar for every corner, cheer like it’s your last for every goal. Come on, now’s our time. It’s up to both us and the players to make Sunday the day we need it to be.

All sides of the ground have to play their part, starting with the Gwladys Street End. Known for being the better of the four, it still has been quiet of late. We need the inhabitants of the Street End to lead the chants, screams and more throughout the game. If they don’t get going, no-one will.

Moving on to the Park End. I’ve seen you get loud before. Fiorentina at home was massive. I, being a young-ish fan, have never seen you as loud as that and am yet to see it since. I know that game was a night game and early kick offs are a lot harder, but come on, try your best eh?

I’ve only taken my place in the Bullens around 3 times, but one of them was one of my favourite games. It was that game against United, that tackle that Neville threw in on Ronaldo, only for the now best player in the world to roll about ridiculously and win the freekick, unfairly. United’s main men, Ferdinand and Giggs, quickly came rushing in to bully referee Alan Wiley into giving our then captain the yellow card. I’ve never seen such a big group of people be as angry as me and the rest of the Bullens Road were that day. Of course the rest of the ground was angry, but we had a clear view, we were only 10 or 20 yards away from the action and we knew that our man had won the ball. We were furious for the rest of the game, contended every decision, and it swung the match and our season, and that’s what we need on Sunday, but it shouldn’t take a tackle or poor refereeing decision to get us going. We should be at them from the start. I maintain that this is one of the biggest we have had for a while.

Finally, the Main Stand and Top Balcony. I reside in the Top Balcony, and I know as much as anyone that it’s the quietest of the lot. If you’re sitting up there on Sunday, be loud for once, because I certainly will. We need all hands on deck.

So whatever it takes to get you going before kick-off on Sunday, make sure it happens. Whether it’s watching videos before you come to the ground, or getting irrationally angry at something else, just make sure it happens.
