Distin: One game doesn’t define your season
Everton veteran Sylvain Distin has refused to rule his side out of the race for a Champions League spot despite the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur away at White Hart Lane.
Everton were beaten by sixth placed Spurs meaning the North London side went ahead of them in the race to 4th place. With Liverpool currently 5 points clear of the toffees many Everton fans and journalists have written the blues off, but Distin doesn’t agree and says while it is still mathematically possible they will keep trying.
He said: “Have you seen how many teams since the start of the season have been written off and then come back?
“Every time you lose people write you off. Every time you win you’re back in the race. It doesn’t interest us. If it did we should stop playing football right now, shouldn’t we?
“One game doesn’t define your season, otherwise you would pick every time you win or every time you lose and say that’s the one that did it.
“Have you seen the results in this league? Did you see Arsenal the other day? The reality is this is an amazing league and anything can happen any single week.
“The most frustrating thing is that Tottenham are a direct opponent in the race for a European place. If we win that game it would have given us a bit more protection.
“Now it’s going to be more difficult. We didn’t score and they did with their only chance. It’s difficult to take. But there are plenty more points to take.”
