Russian source Investia claim that Premier League pair Newcastle United & Everton are both monitoring CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia.
The St James’ Park and Goodison Park sides have apparently both been on the trail of the in-form striker for much of the year and are both ready to bid for the 25 year old in January though CSKA Moscow are said to be looking for as much as £18m for the former Young Boys star.
Though both Alan Pardew and Roberto Martinez have enjoyed relatively good starts to the season their clubs have only scored a combined total of six goals in their eight games thus far this term so one can see why they would be scouting possible attacking additions but are both unlikely to meet Doumbia’s price-tag.
Doumbia has netted an impressive 57 goals in 88 games since moving to the Russian Premier League back in January 2010 and scored at an even more phenomenal rate in Switzerland where the forward managed 57 goals in just two seasons.
Magpies director of football Joe Kinnear failed to land any high profile targets and his one meaningful capture, the loan signing of QPR forward Loic Remy, is a deal that is yet to make much of an impact in terms of boosting the Newcastle United strike-force.
