Everton are understood to be planning an improved bid for Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady.
New Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is a known admirer of the 27-year-old and made a move for the former Celtic wideman during his time as manager of Wigan Athletic.
The Republic of Ireland international’s contract with the Russian club expires at the end of next season when he will be able to leave Spartak on a free.
It is understood that McGeady is desperate to leave the Russian Premier League side this summer and Spartak want to sell the winger in order to recoup some of the £9.5 million they paid Celtic for him in 2010.
Everton have already had a bid in the region of £5 million for the player’s signature rejected by Spartak and a source has told SportsDirect News that the Toffees are set to return with a higher offer for the transfer of McGeady.
The Merseyside club have been busy so far this window having already brought Arouna Kone, Joel Robles, Antolin Alcaraz and Gerard Deulofeu to Goodison Park this summer.
i would not bother returning, mcgeady is worth about 3m no more.If spartak moscow think he is worth more then thats up to them.He is a above average player at 27yrs of age with pace of which will start going in 2 years.3M for mcgeady is a fare price for him who is also in his last year of contract.
I hope not! He is one headless chicken and wouldn’t even bother if he was free! Let him stay in Russia!
What ‘source’?
The bloke at the next desk in your office?
Stop pedalling garbage
Sorry should have read ‘their office’ not yours
This is what lazy journos do over August – invent the ‘news’
I would leave well alone.
Still think we need a striker first such as Vossen/Defoe/Bent – proven goalscorers who have done it and continue to do it at the top level.
Then we need another centre back to replace Distin, who may be having his last season as first choice. Apart from Duffy on our books (Heitinga going?) we could do with a proven CB to push Distin for his place and be ready to take it over without any problems (Alderweireld maybe?)
Finally, if we keep Fellaini we don’t need anyone else in midfield for this season at least, but if he goes we obviously need to replace him. Personally I would have bought Fer or Capoue anyway because they are both good players who have now gone to our rivals for roughly £5-6m each. Players we were supposed to be interested in, and who I think we will regret buying. They would have been invaluable to the squad and not only pushed our other midfielders for a place but been there ready if anyone was sold in the future.
Fingers crossed for whoever we get in though.
Mon the toffs!
