Everton face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury sustained by Darron Gibson in lastnights Ireland international, after the player collapsed in a heap on the pitch in the first half.
Roberto Martinez was at the Aviva stadium watching Ireland record a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan when the midfielder went down.
Gibson was treated on the pitch for several minutes before being carried off by medics with his right knee heavily bandaged.
Interim Ireland manager Noel King admitted that he didn’t know the entent of the damage and the player would be assessed by Everton medical staff on Merseyside.
Gibson missed the start of the Premier League season with a knee problem and any extended absence would come as a massive blow to the Toffees after their positive start to the campaign.
Ironically, Gibbo had only just returned to international action after making himself unavailable for Ireland following former boss Giovanni Trapattoni’s decision to leave him sitting on the bench for their entire Euro 2012 finals campaign.
