    Everton interested in Vermaelen

    Everton are interested in signing former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen according to the Daily Mirror according to Spanish website Sport.

    The 29 year old Belgian centre-back has suffered a disappointing start to his Barcelona career after signing in the summer and has not played any football for the Catalans yet due to injury.

    The Belgian international signed for Barcelona in the summer for £15m but a series of injuries have curtailed his career, although he is expected to make his debut soon.

    Everton are in the market for a centre-back with Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz both expected to leave Goodison Park on free transfers in the summer.
