Vitoria Guimaraes president Julio Mendes has confirmed that there is indeed significant interest in the club’s striker and Portugal Under-20 international, Amido Balde who was reported to be a target for Everton.
The Bissau-born forward, whom Vitoria acquired from Sporting Lisbon during the summer of last year, has turned quite a few heads during his stay at the Portuguese club this season, where he has scored 9 goals in just over 18 appearances this term
The young striker’s ability to score goals and his large stature makes him a considerable presence on the pitch – attributes certainly not lost on his suitors, which include English clubs Everton and Newcastle as well as La Liga side Sevilla.
While Balde has recently denied reports he has been approached by any club, Vitoria president Mendes has heard that there are sides who covet the hitman.
“I can confirm that there are several clubs interested in Balde and we are studying the situation calmly and carefully”, Mendes told Estadio Deportivo.
Balde penned a two-year contract with Vitoria upon signing, tying him to the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques until 2014.
