Everton to sign seven new players this summer
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that he will increase his squad size by seven players this summer to cope with the rigours of European football.
The Spaniard confessed that he is excited about bringing fresh blood to Goodison Park and says that the squad doesn’t necessarily need improving it needs increasing.
‘It’s not about improving the squad, it’s about increasing it,’ said Martinez. ‘When you are playing in Europe you need six or seven new players. That’s the reality and we will do that. I get excited about bringing new players in. You need fresh blood.
‘We’ve got incredible senior players: Tim Howard, James McCarthy, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Leon Osman, James McCarthy. Those players hold the dressing room together but we need fresh talent and fresh additions to help the team.
‘In another season, the 69 points we have would have been Champions League football. With the heritage and history we have, we should be aiming for the Champions League.
‘I’m excited about the players we have and the football we’ve played this season has been phenomenal.
‘I think we’re on the right path with the right people, it’s just an adventure that we need to carry on growing and experiencing.’
