Luke Garbutt has joined Colchester United on an initial 28 day loan.
The left-back, 20, links up with the League One outfit ahead of their game against Bradford on Saturday.
Garbutt arrived from Leeds four years ago and has progressed through the academy sides to become a regular for the Blues’ Under-21 team.
He made his only full Everton appearance in last season’s League Cup having enjoyed a successful season-long loan at Cheltenham Town the previous campaign.
The Us have made a mixed start to their campaign, with Joe Dunne’s side winning two, drawing two and losing two of their six league games to date.
Garbutt arrives with the Essex outfit about to embark on a run of several games against teams currently in the top half of the table.
It’s a move which has been met with approval by Everton’s Under-21s manager Alan Stubbs.
He told evertonfc.com: “It’s a chance for Luke to go out and play some competitive games which will help his experience.
“His loan is for 28 days which means he has the opportunity to play five matches. Colchester play Bradford, Crawley, Bristol City, Wolves and Walsall in that time, four of which are in the top half of the table so it will be good for his development.”
