The Blues have begun their training after going away for ‘warm weather training’ in Tenerife. New signing Aiden McGeady can be seen taking part as well as Distin, Heitinga, Vellios, Gueye and Howard (pictures later down). According to The Canarian Weekly, Martinez gave them a light warm up today, including some gentle stretches and bike work. The real hard work will start tomorrow.
Everton will train at the impressive 3T (Tops Training Tenerife) Sports Centre. This brand new complex, which opened in October 2008, boasts state of the art training facilities including a full size natural grass pitch, Olympic swimming pool, fully equipped gym and a sports science centre. Manchester City used the facilities for their mid season training camp in February 2009. It is situated in the small coastal village of La Caleta and is part of the municipal district Adeje, approximately 15 miles west of the Reina Sofia International Airport close to the resort of Playa de las Americas. La Caleta is a picturesque and quiet resort with a handful bars and restaurants.
Barkley tweets about the pool:
Everton will spend the week in Tenerife before the next game against West Brom away from home under the guidance of new manager Pepe Mel. This will be the third time in two seasons that the Blues will face a new manager first, after Southampton and Sunderland last season.
