Hamburg are launching a £6million bid for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic say the Daily Mail
The Croatian, 27, made a spectacular start to his Everton career when he scored 11 goals in his first 16 games but last season struggled for form and new manager Roberto Martinez has signed Aroune Kone from Wigan.
Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreutz said: ‘We are dealing with it.’
I really dont see the value of losing Jelavic and I just dont want this to happen. Ok some may say 6 million is a decent fee to get for a player who lost form and confidence last season yet it just puts us in a position where we then need to go out and look for a striker straight away, we cant just go into a season with Kone and Anichebe as our main strikers. I would much prefer to keep Jelavic and give him until January to see if a new playing style can re-ignite his goalscoring instinct, then spend time looking for a replacement. Much rather flog Heitinga for 4 million or so and put that money towards a midefielder, we are comfortably covered in defence.
Its a big dilemma this. I mean Jela was so hit or miss last season, mostly miss as I recall but his curling left footer that finished City off was a marvel to behold. Behold being the operative word in this case because I still think the man is a pure striker and has a lot more to offer given the autonomy and freedom that a striker should have. I got the feeling last season that Jela was cohersed outside his comfort zone by Moyes and the coaches so seldom was he in the right place at the right time to be our sting in the tale. However generous 6 Million sounds I doubt we could source a more seasoned and exiting striker for that kind of lolly elsewhere. Jela could well be our sting in the tail again if Bobby allows him free reign.
