Gibson: Tom Davies is a very good player
Everton midfielder Darron Gibson believes that he is in the right place in his career to offer advice to the wealth of young talent that Everton have on the verge of the first team.
Gibson also praised youngsters Tom Davies and Jonjoe Kenny after the pair made their Premier League debuts for the club towards the end of last season.
“Being at United, I gained a lot of experience with the Champions League and things like international football, so it’s nice to look after the young lads when they come in.
“I know Kieran Dowell quite well as we share the same agent and I spoke to him a few times last season to offer some advice. It is nice to have the experience to pass on.
“It does make it a lot easier when you have experienced players helping you out, but the young lads are good players so if they can handle the pressure of coming into that dressing room, they’ll be alright.”
Gibson was also impressed with youngsters Tom Davies and Jonjoe Kenny who made their Everton debuts at the end of the 2015/16 season.
“Tom’s a very good player,” he added. “He came out of nowhere in training – he joined us one day and didn’t look out of place and so stayed in.
“I think the loans have helped Jonjoe out massively and he’s come back a much better player. He didn’t look out of place either in the final game against Norwich.”
Which youngsters will make the first team squad this season?
