Jagielka: I get grumpy not playing for Everton
Everton defender Phil Jagielka was delighted to be back playing for Everton following a long spell on the sidelines and says that not playing makes him very grumpy.
The England defender made his comeback against Manchester City in front of England manager Roy Hodgson following a long spell out injured and says he hopes for a positive phone call before May 12th when the squad is announced.
Jagielka told Sky Sports: “I am not the best watcher, I get quite grumpy. I have had to bide my time and it has been frustrating. It’s nice to get out there and play 60-odd minutes.
“Touch wood, nothing is hurting yet so I will step up training next week and hopefully get a bit longer under my belt next weekend and wait for a positive phone call after that.”
Fellow Everton player Ross Barkley put in a strong performance infront of the England manager and Jagielka says that the performance would have helped him impress Roy Hodgson.
“His performance can’t have done him any harm,” said Jagielka.
“I don’t think the performance he put in was going to be make or break – I think Roy has got a pretty good idea whether he is going to be on the plane or not – but if there was any inkling of what ability he has got; I think his goal was great and I think the performance on a whole that he put in was great.
“We are always telling Ross he needs to get involved in the games as much as possible and I think today he has had as many touches as I have seen him.
“He was tackling and his range of passing was good so it’s nice to see someone with the talent and enthusiasm he has got put in a performance like he did today.
“And it’s always nice to give a gentle reminder just before the squad is going to be announced.”
