Jags bemoans second half display
Everton skipper Phil Jagielka feels that his side let themselves down with their second half display, despite coming away from the Etihad with a well deserved draw.
His Everton side faced the second of 3 games against Manchester City on Wednesday and produced a fine first half display before a tired second half performance and Jags feels his side can do better.
He said: “In the first half we had a decent gameplan where we managed to keep the ball better and have a few counter-attacks, but in the second half we let ourselves down a little bit on the ball.
“That gave City chances to attack our goal but, thanks to some good defending and fantastic goalkeeping, we managed to keep it at 0-0.
“Tim Howard comes up trumps when we need him. He made some fantastic saves and the back four had a good night, as did the two lads in front of us. We’re disappointed we didn’t keep the ball as well as we should, which made us busier than we would have liked, but it’s a hard-fought point and something we can build on.”
“I’m still trying to find a bit of match sharpness,” he explained. “This was only my second 90 minutes in about three months. The games are going to come thick and fast now, we’ve got Chelsea away on Saturday, so it’ll be an interesting couple of weeks or so.”
