Joel: I am fortunate to have a longer run, but I don’t want Howard injured
Everton reserve goalkeeper Joel Robles has said that he is fortunate to get an extended run in the Everton first team, but he wishes it wasn’t at the expense of an injury to a fellow player.
Joel has stepped in while first choice Tim Howard has been injured and after a rocky start has started to grow in confidence, although the number 2 is just concentrating on the job at hand.
Robles told evertontv: “I am happy to be playing but no-one likes to see a teammate injured. Football is like that and those situations arise where an injury happens and it leads to an opportunity for someone like me.
“My job is to be fit and ready to step in at any time. My main role is to do my best for the team. This time, perhaps I am fortunate to have a longer run of matches but things can change.
“The truth is, I don’t really think about it (dislodging Howard). I just look at each training session and match as it comes. I don’t look at the bigger picture or how many appearances I might make.”
