Joel Robles: I’m learning from Tim Howard
Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles hopes to be given the nod by manager Roberto Martinez for the FA Cup match against QPR this weekend. The 23 year old Spaniard impressed in last seasons competition with Wigan Athletic and was part of the side that beat Manchester City in the final to lift the trophy and the goalie wants to be in the side at the weekend.
“That’s the decision for the manager – it’s up to him to make that decision,” Robles told evertontv. “I’m working hard to make myself available for both cup and league games.
“If he wants to put me in, that would be great.”
Robles came into the side for the Premier League game against Southampton following Tim Howards red card but was put back on the bench when the American has served his one game suspension. Joel is enjoying working with the Yank and is learning lots of top tips from one of the Premier Leagues best keepers.
“Tim is in a great moment of form and although I’m competing against him, the great thing is that because I’m training alongside him he is giving me a lot of tips. I’m learning from him on a day-to-day basis.
“Goalkeeping is a position where you have to have the total confidence of the guys around you. I need to gain confidence from them and they have been great and really supportive throughout this week and in the games.”
