Johnny Heitinga is close to a move away from Everton and could be heading to Italy according to reports in Italian news outlet La Nazione.
Heitinga has endured a fairly unhappy time on Merseyside over the last few years and hasn’t featured a lot under Roberto Martinez. Heitinga joined the toffees from Spainish club Atletico Madrid and was initially a fans favourite, winning the player of the year award in the 11/12 season, but a combination of poor form, manager selection and perceived lack of effort caused the supporters to lose patience.
Fiorentina are now showing an interest in the Dutchman that is out of contract in the summer. La Viola are currently fifth in Serie A and would see Heitinga as a man that could help them reach the Champions League.
Fenerbahce have also been linked to the player over the last few months, but wage demands could be a problem. Heitinga currently earns in excess of £65k per week.
Would this be a good move for the player and Everton? Have your say at www.theevertonforum.com
I think he should be sold now,in the January window,so we don’t lose out financially. He seems to be unable to play alongside Jags. Was great with Silvain, but, whenever picked with Jags, huge gaps have appeared which have given goals away. Can’t see a route back, with Alcaras and Duffy in the wings, not to mention Stones. So,sadly, thanks loads John, but good luck wherever you end up.
