John Stones was delighted to make his Everton debut and praised the Goodison faithful
“You always hear about the Goodison fans and it was such a great feeling to walk out,” he said. “It was one to remember and it has been really good
“Just to play alongside such big names as Jags and Hibbo (Tony Hibbert) is a really good feeling.”
“I was hoping for the call-up for America and when it came I was so happy,” he added.
“It was such a great experience to play the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid. To where I’ve come from it is such a big step and I cherish those moments.”
Stones enjoyed his first taste of senior football with Everton but knows that Stevenage pushed them right to the wire.
“The game said a lot about that and it went to the last five or 10 minutes but the lads stuck at it and with Fellaini coming on he made a great impact, along with Sylvain and Seamus (Coleman),” Stones added.
“We had to grind it out in the end but it was a well deserved win.”
On-loan Barcelona teenager Gerard Deulofeu grabbed the headlines with a goal on his debut and a man-of-the-match performance.
Stones says the display came as no surprise to him because he has seen him showcase his talent in training at Finch Farm.
“He is one of the players that catches your eye in training,” he added.
“It was such a great goal he scored as well.
“We all chip in to help create his success but he played really well and I’m glad he got his goal.”
