Kennedy: I want to break into the Everton first team following loan move
Everton winger Matthew Kennedy who is currently on-loan in Scotland with Hibernian hopes to use his experience in Edinburgh to break into the Everton first team once he returns to Merseyside.
Kennedy is currently half way through a 6 month loan spell and has so far made 4 starts and 3 sub appearances for the Scottish championship club will help him in the same way loan spells helped Ross Barkley and Leon Osman.
“Alan Stubbs asked me to move up on loan when he first joined as manager,” Kennedy told evertonfc.com. “I knew I was going to go out on loan this season but I wasn’t sure where and I didn’t want to rush into anything.
“But after speaking with Roberto [Martinez], we decided it would be the best move for me because I know the way Alan works and he knows me, which was good for everyone.
“I don’t think I’d have come back up to Scotland if it wasn’t for Alan and he was a massive factor in me joining Hibernian on loan.”
“The club itself is fantastic,” he continued. “It’s not until you come up here that you realise how big it is. The stadium is good and the fans really get behind the team.
“I’ve enjoyed my time so far and I think it’s been beneficial. I just hope to get my head down now and nail down a regular starting place and hopefully get back to Everton and impress there too.
“I have to take it day-by-day for now but my intention has always been to come back to Everton and to break into the first team.
“Joe Royle has been up and he watches most of my games. He’s been really good with me and it’s good to have someone like him watching over me.
“Leon Osman and Ross Barkley are two lads in particular who have both gone out on loan and then managed to really establish themselves. That’s what I’m looking at and hopefully I’ll be able to follow that path.”
