Koeman: Barkley is a vital young player for Everton
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has admitted he is a fan of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, but admits that now is the time for the scouser to show his ability.
Koeman believes that now is the time for Barkley to shine as expectations on him are high and he will take time to see how he does in training when he gets back from England training at the Euros.
He said: “I need to see Ross doing his training sessions and get an opinion on him. He will play in one of the midfield positions, but I don’t know where that will be.
“He is a vital young player for Everton.
“At the moment he is playing behind the striker. It’s more of an offensive position than defensive. And I like him as a player.
“He can play either side and has a good view of the pitch. But he needs to improve. He is not a talent anymore, he is a national team player and the expectations of him are high.
“He needs support, and he will get that. I’m looking forward to working with him and making him a better player. But I can only really see when he comes back from training.”
Will Koeman make a difference to Ross Barkley?
