Leighton Baines: Martinez convinced me to stay after flattering United interest
Leighton Baines has said that Everton manager Roberto Martinez convinced him to stay at the club after being courted by former manager David Moyes at Manchester United.
Moyes made a number of bids for the left-back in the summer and Baines admits that he was flattered to have his former manager and his current manager both wanting him in their teams.
Baines told the BBC’s Football Focus: “I talked about it a lot with the manager (Martinez). We had a lot of conversations because something seemed to be going on and he kept me informed.
“He was adamant that he wanted me to stay here. It was flattering really, to have your old manager wanting to take you with him and your new manager really wanting to keep you.”
