Everton will offer Leighton Baines a lucrative new contract in an attempt to stop him rejoining his old manager David Moyes at Manchester United according to the Telegraph
Chairman Bill Kenwright revealed that an approach is being made to Baines about him staying at the club on a longer deal. The 28-year-old England left-back, whose current contract runs out in 2015, would effectively be committing the rest of his career to Goodison Park.
Kenwright has made it clear he wants the negotiations to begin soon, as Moyes hovers around his former players. “Absolutely right. That has started,” said Kenwright. “Most of our players, if not all of our players, are on good contracts at the moment. There has been no back and forward dialogue with Leighton about a new contract but that will start. He knows we want him to stay. His contract situation is two years. I have said to David: ‘Don’t come back in for him’.”
