Martinez: Everton to face Arsenal with no Fear
Roberto Martinez is excited about taking his Everton side to the emirates and is hoping that the team can fulfil their potential. The toffees travel to London to face an Arsenal team riding high at the top of the table having lost only 2 of their opening 14 games, but the Spaniard says that Everton will go there with no fear.
“It’s one of those teams and venues that you know you need to be at your best,” he said. “From our point of view, we’re ready for that test and challenge. We are excited about going to the Emirates – about challenging the best team in the league so far.”
“I don’t think we’ve played with fear at all this season,” he reasoned. “We beat Chelsea at home and to beat Manchester United away showed an incredible improvement to our performance.
“So far this season we’ve showed that we can enjoy our football. We’ve got a terrific blend of players in the dressing room and we’re excited about fulfilling this potential. We are looking to use this as a test to see how quickly we can challenge these sort of sides.”
Roberto Martinez says that his opposition will get his teams respect and they will need to be at their best to overcome a very good opponent, but off the back of a victory against Manchester United, he feels his Everton team is capable.
“Arsenal deserve a lot of respect, because if in the first 14 games you are capable of winning 11 games I think you are the outstanding team in the competition,” said Martinez.
“That is why we’ll have to be at our best. Their movement and forward play requires maximum concentration.”
Everton have only lost once this season though, to mega rich Manchester City, so will be full of confidence facing the Londoners on their own turf.
