Martinez: I will always look for opportunities to bring players in

Roberto Martinez insists that he won’t be rushed into signing players and getting caught up in a transfer frenzy, but insists that he has room to manoeuver in the transfer window without selling players.  He said: “You’ve always got opportunities to bring players in, and I think what’s important is that we’ll always do that.

“Going into the final day of the window sometimes you have unexpected injuries, sometimes you see one or two players from the younger group who you expected to be ready but for whatever reason they weren’t ready.

“There are different ways of bringing players in without spending huge amounts of money. I will always make sure that it’s not a case of getting drawn into the transfer window fever and trying to bring in players just for the sake of it.

“In the modern game you have to be creative in the way you bring players in and I’ve done that many times.”

Martinez has prepared a raft of targets if it becomes necessary to turn to the market, but he will only bring in players good enough to improve a group which has already been strengthened by the additions of £5m striker Arouna Kone, Barcelona loan recruit Gerard Deulofeu, Antolin Alcaraz and goalkeeper Joel Robles.

“It’ll be trying to find the right players, with the right personalities who can perform for Everton,” he added.

“So there are always decisions you need to make in terms of the squad, and we’ll always keep an eye open.

“If we find the specific individual who can help the group we’ve got, I will never say no. At the moment all I’m concerned about is the group and making sure we’re fit and prepared for Norwich on Saturday.”
