Martinez: I’m really excited to have signed McGeady
Roberto Martinez was over the moon to be able to welcome Irish winger Aiden McGeady to his squad after reaching an agreement with Russian club Spartak Moscow. Martinez has been chasing the former Celtic man for a number of years and didn’t expect McGeady to sign until the summer window once his contract at the Russian expired, but the club were able to reach an agreement and McGeady was showcased infront of the Goodison Park faithful before the match against Norwich City today.
He told evertontv: “We’re delighted. Delighted first because it looked as though it was going to be a signing for the end of the season but we were able to reach an agreement with Spartak Moscow and we have him in now, which is the perfect time.
“That’s because he needs a little bit of an introduction to the English game after such a long time in the Russian League.”
Martinez feels that McGeady will be able to adapt and fit in to the style he has introduced to the player very quickly and that Everton fans will quickly enjoy watching the Republic of Ireland star.
“He’s a perfect player for our style and the way we are as a football club,” said the boss.
“Aiden will fit in perfectly well and I think the timing couldn’t be better. I’m really, really excited and delighted to get him over.”
