Martinez looking forward to Darron Gibson comeback
Everton manager Roberto Martinez can’t wait for Republic of Ireland international Darron Gibson to be back in action and says that the midfielder was a massive loss for his team this season.
Gibson was injured on international duty and although Gareth Barry and James McCarthy were in tremendous form this season, the Spaniard believes that Gibson would have complimented the other midfielder.
“Darron has been a big miss for us,” says Martinez. “He has not been forgotten internally.
“I know when you don’t play as a player you get a little bit out of the limelight but I’m very excited about Darron’s contribution next season. He’s exactly the type of midfielder we need. Gareth Barry and James McCarthy have been fantastic but we could have done with Darron being fit and ready.
“He is looking sharp. He wanted to be involved in the final game of the season but we would have been taking a little bit of a risk to do that.
“But I’m pleased to say he will start pre-season in great condition and ready to fight.”

If he is to achieve his true potential he must have an unbroken run of games. He is capable of being a great player, his vision and touch are excellent. Unfortunately he got swallowed up in the United machine and just when he started to make a niche for himself at Everton succumbed to this injury. Toffees love good midfielders, they’ve seen enough, and are willing him on to success.
