Martinez: Mirallas or Naismith may be used as strikers
Roberto Martinez has dampened Everton fans desires for a world class new striker by saying that Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith can be used as front men.
The arrival of winger Aiden McGeady means that the blues boss has more options in the team and has said that either of the 2 internationals can play through the middle. This may be a slight worry to Everton fans, who are in with a real chance of qualifying for Champions League football and the Everton fans would like to see them push on.
But in Martinez we trust…..
Martinez told evertontv: “We are quite flexible with the wide players we have at the club, they can play in different positions and probably because of the lack of options we haven’t been able to do that.
“Aiden is here and while Gerard Deulofeu is injured, other players who play in those wide positions can play centrally.”
“Steven Nasmith and Kevin Mirallas have done that before. Steven with the (Scotland) national team and Kevin has done that successfully with his previous club Olmypiakos.
“So we have got good players who can operate in that central role and it will be exciting to have the option to do it in certain games.”
Is this a worrying statement? Do you think Naismith and Mirallas can play as strikers or do you think Roberto has a few tricks up his sleeve? Have your say at www.theevertonforum.com
Or, by stating that we are already staffed with sufficient firepower he stops the agents inflating their charges value.
Don’t like the sound of this. We have let Jelavic go and Koune is out for the season we have got to strengthen our attack.
