Martinez: Naismiths most natural position is number 9
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has paid tribute to Scottish striker Steven Naismith and said that the number 9 striker role, through the middle is his most natural position.
Naismith is in good form at the moment adding to the two goals against Stevenage in the FA cup with a strike against Aston Villa in the Premier League. While Naismith has mainly be used in a right wing position in his time at Everton, Martinez fully recognises the contribution of the blonde Scot played in a central role.
Martinez said: “He is playing very well. It is the most natural position for Steven, that No.9 role.
“He has shown over the months that he can play in a number of positions, but that is him at his best, his most natural play.
“You don’t do yourself any harm when you play in the manner that he did today.
“He has shown that he is ready to cope with the pressure, and to cope with what is needed to win games.”
Do you think Naismith is good enough to lead the line for Everton or should he be used as an impact sub? Have your say at www.theevertonforum.com
I think that played through the centre, rather than as a supplementary midfielder he will prosper.Teamed with Rom or Kevin I think he could get a bagfull.
