Martinez: Sylvain Distin is back in contention
Roberto Martinez has confirmed what a lot of Everton fans already knew (Due to some cracking training pictures from Canarian Weekly) that Sylvain Distin is back in contention for a first team place.
The Everton team have been training in the Canary Islands this week and have integrated with fans in Tenerife. The sunshine and warm weather have helped to rejuvenate the squad after a gruelling winter period that meant the squad was tested by injuries and suspensions. The sessions have allowed the squad to bond and will have been a great way to welcome new boy Aiden McGeady.
Martinez told evertonfc.com: “Sylvain has come through four sessions now and has had no reaction. That straight away has been one of the benefits. He has been able to work with the group with no effects to him.”
He added: “It has been terrific so far. It has been a unique opportunity to spend a lot of time together and to work on the training pitch. The facilities and the hospitality have made a perfect environment for our warm weather training.
“The players have benefitted because of the humidity and the weather. We have been working hard and getting the benefits from it.
“The boys who are carrying a little bit of an injury or a problem have been able to work extra time and it’s been very beneficial for the whole team.
“We have met a lot of fans based on the island and they have been close to the team while we have been working.
“It has been a great feeling to get that support even when you are abroad. So we say thank you for your support while we are over here.”
