Martinez: The squad is stronger after the transfer window
Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes his squad is stronger after the transfer window than it was before. The blues manager added Aiden McGeady, Lacina Traore and Jindrich Stanek to the squad and lost Johnny Heitinga and Nikica Jelavic over the course of the January transfer window but Martinez believes they have done good business.
“We’re really happy and really pleased,” said Martinez. “January is one of those windows where, if you haven’t performed well, you need to find a change and bring players in. But it’s a big risk and sometimes clubs need to take that risk. In our position, it’s different, you want to keep that stability.
“We were very pleased to sign Leighton Baines for the long term, sort the new contract for Sylvain Distin and then, on top of that, we bought two very important additions.
“In January, if you want to bring players in, they need to add something extra but to bring in people of the quality you already have in the dressing room is nearly impossible.
“We have two outstanding footballers in Aiden McGeady and Lacina Traore, so we’re really pleased with what we’ve done.”
