    Martinez: We are close on terms with Garbutt, but he may not sign

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez feels that Luke Garbutt has a massive decision to make at the end of the season after he revealed that the club are close on agreeing terms, but for footballing decisions the youngster may not sign.

    Garbutt is the 3rd choice left-back at the club, but has impressed Everton supporters with a string of no nonsense games.  Regular left-back Leighton Baines picked up an injury in the defeat against Sunderland and Garbutt will now get his chance to impress.

    “We will assess it,” said Martinez. “It was quite painful and I don’t think we could take any risks.

    “But Luke Garbutt is ready if that’s the case.

    “It’s a shame that Bryian Oviedo is not fit because the way he has been fighting all season it would have been a great way for him to end the season playing. But Luke Garbutt is ready.”

    Speaking about the clubs offer to Garbutt, Martinez said:

    “We are very close (on terms) but for Luke, it is more about sitting down at the end of this season and seeing what is best for the next step in his career.

    “At the moment it’s down to him. We really want him to stay but I can understand he can feel that having the number three for England ahead of him will make it difficult for him to play.

    “We need to to draw a path for his development and make sure he is quite happy with that because it is no good to keep a player who is not happy to be part of the squad because he knows what is in front of him.”

    1. Could he not play in midfield? Say in a wingers roll?OR like Gareth Barry who’s not gonna be with us forever?
      I do hope we can keep him as he is a class player who’s come thru the ranks, we should be very proud of him, but can understand he’s frustration not getting games in!!

    2. There was a suggestion that Baines could play further forward, with Ossie and Peanut struggling with fitness we are short in that area . Then Garbutt could step into left back
