Martinez: We could have 10 players out injured against Liverpool

Everton boss Roberto Martinez could potentially have new loan signing Lacina Traore available for tomorrow nights Merseyside derby against Liverpool, but at the same time the blues could be faced with having 10 first team squad players out injured.

Long term the blues are missing Bryan Oviedo, Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson, whilst 6 other players not including Traore may also be missing and these include Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin, Antolin Alcaraz, Seamus Coleman, Steven Pienaar and Ross Barkley.

The Spaniard will find out later today if Traore is match fit or requires more time to be assessed for later matches.

“Lacina will arrive today and we’re going to bring him into the squad as soon as he’s ready,” said Martinez.

“It’s a little early to tell if he’ll be able to make the derby or not but he’ll be working with us from today.”

The Spaniard is also awaiting fitness results on 6 other key members of his first team squad and says that they are doubtful for tomorrow nights match.

He added: “We’ve got a group of six players that we need to assess. They’re carrying a few knocks and injuries. Phil Jagielka had to come off at half-time against Stevenage and we have Sylvain Distin, Antolin Alcaraz, Seamus Coleman, Steven Pienaar and Ross Barkley.

“We’re doubtful they can make the derby, but they’re not far away so maybe someone has a chance.”

Gerard Deulofeu is also due back on Merseyside at the end of the week, but is likely to miss the Derby taking the players missing to 11
