Martinez: We have a vision and work hard to get the squad better
Everton manager Roberto Martinez feels this is the strongest squad that he has ever had the pleasure of managing and says that they aren’t comparing themselves to Liverpool, they are just focussed on their own performance.
Martinez is delighted with how his squad is shaping up having spent 5 transfer windows in charge and he says they have brought in some brilliant players and also have some excellent youngsters coming through the ranks.
“I don’t measure success by comparing our success with other teams,” he said. “We have a vision and put a lot of work into developing a squad that gets better and better.
“I am delighted after five [transfer] windows. There are many experienced players performing extremely well and then the amount of young talent, with big roles in the squad, is impressive.
“Then, there is another group of young players underneath who are getting ready to help the team.
“We’re pleased with the mentality that we’re showing. We always knew that we had the talent that we showed the season before last and, clearly, we wanted to get stronger from window to window and that’s been the case throughout.”
“It’s about how good we can be,” he added. “It will be about how well we can start the game, how consistent we can be throughout the 90 minutes and how much we can use playing at home to our advantage.
“We respect the opposition and we know we’ll see a team with a lot of experience and huge investment behind it – but it doesn’t go any further than being as good as we can and how well we can prepare for the game.”
