Martinez: We need to learn a few things and get back to our best
Roberto Martinez says that Everton have to understand why they lost that match and learn quickly in order to help get their season back on track following the drubbing by city rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby.
Everton were comprehensively beaten 4-0 away at Anfield and were out fought and out thought by Brendan Rodgers team and Martinez has challenged his team to learn from their individual errors and team mistakes in order to get back to their high standard.
Martinez said: “I think we need to understand why this result happened and we need to learn a few things but, more importantly, we need to get together as a football club and make sure that we get back to our best level as quickly as we can.
“It’s what happens in football – you get real highs and real lows. What matters is how you react to those moments. And the good thing is, the squad of players that we have is exactly what we need to get out of a situation like this and make sure that we get back to our standards fast.
“In football, you don’t want to lose games, you don’t want to lose derbies. But the reality is that we’ve been magnificent all season and it would be very unfair to just get down after a performance where, on the night, nothing went our way.”
