McAleny: I want to kick on after my injury
Everton attacker Conor McAleny was delighted to be back in contention after injury following a goal scoring return for the Everton under 21’s.
The forward has been out of action since playing for the first team in the Europa League against Krasnodar, but completed 60 minutes and scored a stunning 25 yarder against West Ham United U21’s to push for a recall to the first team.
“I was happy to get 60 minutes under my belt because I needed to get a good run out. It was great to get the goal and the win as well – it was a good night all round.
“Injuries are always frustrating, but it is football and you can’t change it,” he told evertontv. “I’m just happy to be back out there playing again and it’s good to get some confidence back by scoring the goal.
“It was a great experience playing at Goodison in front of the fans a few weeks ago, and, now I’m back, I want to kick on from the performance here.”
Boss Roberto Martinez was also watching and McAleny was keen to impress.
“Obviously, every time he is watching, you want to impress and stay in his thoughts,” he added. “But tonight, it was all about getting the run out and scoring the goal was a bonus.”
