McCarthy: Martinez know how to win the FA cup and we all want that
James McCarthy is desperate to win the FA Cup again after having a taste of success last year with Wigan Athletic. The powerful Scottish-born Irish midfielder has been a driving force in the Everton midfield this year and helped Everton to plot a path to the fourth round with a comprehensive victory over Queens Park Rangers.
The midfielder says that Everton boss Roberto Martinez has all the weapons in his armoury to help Everton to win the cup, he told Everton.tv: “You always want to win cup competitions and last season I did that. Now each and every one of us wants to do it at Everton.
“We want to lift trophies and qualify for Europe. There’s a real buzz about the place, around the city, and hopefully we can keep that going.
“The gaffer has been there and done it. You want someone in charge who knows what it takes to win the cup, and even better he’s done it so recently.
“We’ve got a good squad and at this moment in time we’re looking strong. I think with the window open the manager will try and add another couple and hopefully we don’t lose too many.”
McCarthy was delighted with the goalscoring return of Nikica Jelavic and says he wants the Croatian striker to stay at Goodison Park.
“Since I came here I knew he has a real goal instinct in him,” added the Republic of Ireland international. “He’s brilliant to have around the changing room.
“Hopefully he stays but you never know in football. If he goes it’s a good signing for whoever might get him in my eyes.”
