McGeady: I want to get myself fit, start playing and winning
Aiden McGeady is excited by the prospect of joining Everton and has been encouraged by the noises made by his Republic of Ireland team mates. McGeady has flown away with the squad for warm weather training in Tenerife after signing in from Russian club Spartak Moscow and joins international team mates Darron Gibson, James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy.
McGeady commented “I spoke to quite a lot of the boys and I met everyone [on Saturday] and it seems like a good bunch of lads.
“Obviously I know Darron and Seamus and James, and I know Steven Naismith from playing against him a few years ago. At the moment it’s a little bit like the first day at school again, but hopefully over time I’ll get integrated in.
“Everybody I’ve spoken to has just said it’s a great club with great tradition, great fans, and, obviously, a big pull is the manager as well.
“The team are doing well, so hopefully I can come in and add to it in some way.”
Asked to describe his playing style, McGeady said many words that will excite Evertonians:
“I’m a winger, I can come inside and I’m predominantly right footed but I can play off my left as well,” he explained. “My main attribute is probably going past people. That’s probably the strongest part of my game – that and setting up goals.
“At the minute, I just want to get myself fit because I haven’t played for a long time – I’ve been off the last month and a bit. Then I want to get myself in the team, start playing and start winning games.”

I really hope he is as good as is being said. I read a bit of his biog on Wikapaedia and he seemed to be more interested in ale than anything else. If he went to Russia for CL games it’s one thing, but what if he just went for the roubles? On this I think I have to trust the boss’s instincts and wait for him to start tearing lumps out of other defences.
