Bryan Oviedo was beaming a massive smile after finally getting a chance to impress at his favoured left back spot. The Costa Rican left back has had a wait a year and a half to get the chance, but the toe injury to Leighton Baines meant the talented defender finally got a chance and he took it.
Oviedo baby put in a cracking performance at left-back and also got on the score sheet to stake a claim for a starting berth against Manchester United.
Oviedo told Everton TV: “I am very happy to have scored my first goal in the Premier League and also to play my first game at left-back.
“I’m also happy that the team played well today. This is a very good chance for me. Leighton is a great player but I have waited a year and a half for this chance and I am so happy to play again.”
“I think the coming games are a good opportunity to play for the team and make the most of my chance,” he continued.
“The team is a strong team and a good group. They are all good guys and good players.”
Oviedo was also delighted for fellow youngster Gerard Deulofeu, who was also given a chance to impress. The Spaniard gave a man of the match goal scoring performance and was a constant thorn in the Stoke City side and Bryan was full of praise for the young Barca loan star “He is a good player and a good guy. He’s very fast and it’s difficult to mark him. When he has space it’s very dangerous for the other team. We are happy to have a player like him.”
Whether both players will be in the side to face Manchester United is another story, with Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas having been rested and they may come straight back into the starting eleven.
