Roberto Martinez on Everton Pride and Bryan Oviedo
Roberto Martinez is over the moon today having masterminded his Everton side to victory away at Old Trafford against Manchester United for the first time in 21 years. Facing former boss David Moyes, the Spaniard came away from Manchester with a send of immense pride and praised his players.
On the night, Everton took the game to United and both teams had numerous attacks, but it was the toffee’s that came away victorious.
The Blues boss said: ”I am feeling immense pride as you can imagine because it wasn’t just a game of football.
“It was a mental block that we had to overcome because over the years we haven’t been able to come to place like this and get the three points.
“I was really, really proud of the players and their performance.
“I am just very, very satisfied with the hard work we put in.”
Stand in Left-Back Bryan Oviedo put in a man of the match performance against United and scored his second goal in 2 matches after deputising for the injured Leighton Baines. Martinez was full of praise for the tricky Costa Rican
“It tells you everything about Bryan as a professional because he has one of the hardest jobs in football being the understudy of one of the best left-backs in world football.
“Bryan has been an incredible professional, biding his time and being ready for the team.
“His two performances could not be a better reflection of what he is as a player and a human being.”
Next up for the blues are Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Martinez will be looking to repeat lastnights heroics at a ground that Everton never normally get much joy.
