Roberto set to splash the cash to get Gareth Barry
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is set to offer experienced on-loan midfielder Gareth Barry a £50k per week deal in order to land the England midfielder on a permanent deal at the end of the season when he is a free agent.
Barry would earn a staggering £8m over the course of the contract according to the Mirror and the deal would take Barry through to the ripe old age of 36.
It is believed that Martinez sees the signing of Barry as crucial to the blues and would also mean that he wouldn’t have to splash the cash on a new midfield signing which could prove costly and it is also said that Everton supremo Bill Kenwright will authorise the deal.
Barrys current £120k per week deal with Manchester City ends in the summer.
Would offering Gareth Barry that much in wages be a wise decision at his age? Have your say at www.theevertonforum.com
At this point in time it looks an incredible bargain. However,I’m sure the nice folks at Blue Union will have loads to say if he,loses form, gets injured,is supplanted by Gibson or Macca or is replaced by Ross Barcley. But,I wonder why the press are so against this move.First they say he’s off to the Arsenal, then America and now they aggregate his salary over three years and declare it as if a transfer fee. What have they got to gain? When we buy a striker in the Summer, hopefully, will the cost be stated as the signing fee or an aggregation of that and his total wages throughout his contract.
