Skipper impressed by Galloway impact
Everton captain Phil Jagielka says that he is impressed by how well teenager Brendan Galloway has done since coming into the first team in place of injured left-back Leighton Baines.
The 19 year old has deputised at left-back despite being a centre-half by trade but Jagielka maintains that it will be fantastic for his development as a footballer.
Jagielka told the official website: “Brendan is more comfortable at centre-half but it’s always hard to break into a Premier League first team [in that position],”
“Brendan has come through lower league football. He’s still got his learning curve but he’s done a great job at left-back.
“I don’t think he’d openly say that is the position he wants to end up playing but as part of his development it’s a fantastic opportunity for him.”
“I know myself – I had to play a bit at right-back at Sheffield United then come in after being in centre midfield to play centre-half,” he remembered.
“It’s a sort of role that they see as less dangerous and an easier place to learn, although I’m not sure when you see the wingers you have to play against whether that is right or not.”
