Stekelenburg: I want to play as much as possible
New Everton signing Marten Stekelenburg has declared that he is delighted to have signed for Everton and the goalkeeper wants to give as much as possible to his new team.
Stekelenburg became new manager Ronald Koemans first signing from Fulham and now he just wants to get the season started.
“I want to play as much as possible and to give everything for the Club and the fans,” said the 33-year-old former Ajax star, capped 54 times by the Netherlands.
“It’s nice to be staying longer than one year. The three-year deal is something I’m happy with.
“There’s new staff here as well – I’m familiar with most of them. I’m looking forward to getting the season started.”
Stekelengburg was also looking forward to working with new goalkeeping coach Patrick Lodewijks, despite the local rivalry.
Stekelenburg continued: “He was the goalkeeper coach at Feyenoord. I’m from Ajax so there was a little bit of rivalry!
“He was also working with the national team and has a good reputation. I’ve met him a couple of times, he’s a nice guy and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Assistant manager Erwin Koeman and fitness coach Jan Kluitenburg have also joined the backroom team.
“I worked with them all last year [at Southampton],” added Stekelenburg. “They are a team, all Dutch. The players will have to get used to the Dutch language!
“They are really friendly and are the same as Ronald – hard-working.”
