Stones: I can play which ever position the manager needs me
Everton defender John Stones has come out and said he can play whichever defensive position the manager wants him to do. The former Barnsley man started his career with the Tykes at right-back, but was being groomed to eventually become a centre-back (where he has been playing for Everton).
The Yorkshireman has said that he has been training in both positions and will play wherever the manager wants him to play though.
He told evertontv: “I played at right-back a lot for Barnsley and the manager has played me at centre-half here for a few games. I’ll easily play both positions.
“We work a lot in training on positions so I’m quite used to both – where I need to be and my jobs. The manager drills it into us and I’m fine with whatever position he plays me.
“I came on at right-back against West Brom, so it’s an added bonus for the manager and I to know I can do both if needed.”
Speaking of this weekend’s FA Cup game against Stevenage he said: “These are always tough games. They’ll treat it as a cup final. Their fans will get behind them but we’ll take a good travelling support. We need to be up for it and be professional about our game.”
