Transfer no go leaves West Ham’s defence in the SHeitinga
Everton defender Johnny Heitinga has turned down a move to West Ham just days after Sam Allardyce said that he expected a deal to go through.
Money doesn’t seem to have been a stumbling block as Heitinga is quoted in the Dutch press as saying: ‘The deal has been cancelled,’ he said. ‘This has nothing to do with money, but is only about the feeling I got.
‘This might be the most important decision of my career, so everything has to be just right. We reached the conclusion that this is not the case after we held talks.’
Other clubs are rumoured to be interested now with Liverpool, Newcastle and Roma looking to steal the march on the Dutch International.
Heitinga signed for Everton from Atletico Madrid but never really established himself as a first eleven player due to the form of Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin. Everton will be looking to shift Heitinga’s hefty £65kpw wages from the wage bill to make room for new arrivals.
