Suffering is relative they say. One mans trash is another mans treasure. Sorry, that was a rubbush analogy but what i’m trying to get across here is that all referees are guilty of the odd mistake.
If your team happens to benefit from a referees decision ahem, say like Spurs fans, it’s happy days… “the refs had a bad one today alright, yellow cards for nothing and a clear penalty that he should have easily Shane’d ’em! Fank god we come all this way and still got a point!” One Spurs fan may say. We as a nation have winged and complained for many years at the lack of goal line technology and the ease in which it ought to have been implemented. And eventually it was. And how many times have we used it? I am inclined to think that more Mothers have been arrested this year for punching their own son during a bar-fight in a care home. Ahhh, but, how many entirely shocking, stupid, idiotic, nonsensical refereeing decisions have affected Premier League matches so far – just this season. As you know we were at the end of a clear penalty shout on Sunday.
Bainesy or Romelu could have slotted that one away nicely…1-0 Blues…2nd in the League…and our fans have a lovely Sunday. Instead we had to suffer the blind rantings of another crew of officials who seemed to ignore the big screens at each end of Goodison as well as the exasperated fans and stubbornly confirmed that referees are a law unto themselves and can therefore do what they god-damn like. As a consequence of this, Blues Fans went home defeated of spirit and stunned.
In my opinion, whoever at the FA decided to sanction goal line technology ought to be slamming their own faces into walls frequently in repayment for letting Footy fans down! We are all video referees in our own right. We all know when decisions are shocking and disgraceful and we all know that there will sometimes be elements of doubt during a match. Sort it out FA! Unless you actually benefit from corruption- show the fans that you intend to do all you can to eradicate poor decisions. Belated apologies mean nothing to us but 2nd in the League would have. That penalty was ours for the taking!
