The highest scoring Merseyside Derby since 1935 saw Everton draw 3 – 3 with Liverpool in a truly thrilling encounter.
While all goals followed from set pieces, there were 46 chances created and many of them were clear cut.
The game went end to end from the start but it was Liverpool who took the lead, with Phillipe Coutinho darting from front to back post to receive a corner, which he duly prodded in.
It took the home side only 3 minutes to respond, with a whipped in freekick from Baines finding Barkleys knock down for an oncoming Mirallas to poke home.

Liverpool regained the lead ten minutes later, after Suarez was fouled he stepped up and curled in a freekick past a poorly formed wall.
From there the away side sat back and it was mostly Everton. Into the second half and it could have been all over as Joe Allen missed an absolute sitter to put the Reds 3-1 in front.
They were made to pay. Lukaku rose up from a corner and smashed the ball past the magnificent Mignolet.

It was then Everton who took the lead. Another corner saw it cleared, only for the ball to be played back into the box, pulled back, James McCarthy getting a toe toward that man Romelu Lukaku to calmly slot the ball into the back of the net.

Unfortunately for Evertonians, that wasn’t the end of the scoring. Liverpool won a freekick on their right-hand side and it was Gerrard who whipped in a peach of ball that only needed the flick from Daniel Sturridge to level the game up.
What a game.
