Under-21s coach David Weir has left Everton to take up the manager’s job at League One Sheffield United.
The former Scotland centre-back has agreed a three-year-deal at Bramall Lane and will take over with immediate effect.
He left Goodison Park in 2007 to join Glasgow Rangers but returned in February 2012, initially as a player-coach.
Weir, 43, has since worked as an assistant to Under-21s boss and former teammate Alan Stubbs but will now take up his first job in senior management.
Last season, the Blades finished fifth in League One before suffering a play-off semi-final defeat to eventual winners, Yeovil Town.
Weir takes over from Danny Wilson, who left the South Yorkshire outfit in early April.
